Ardhanarishvara: Union of Opposites

This painting depicts the divine form of Ardhanarishvara, where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati merge into a single being, representing the perfect balance of masculine and feminine energies. The face is divided into two halves — one in cool blue tones of Shiva, marked by the crescent moon and sacred ash, and the other in warm golden hues of Parvati, adorned with jewellery and a bridal veil.

Closed eyes on both sides suggest inner stillness and spiritual unity, while the contrasting colours reflect harmony between strength and compassion, logic and emotion, destruction and creation. The composition symbolises that true wholeness is found not in opposition, but in integration — where dualities dissolve into oneness.

This artwork celebrates balance, completeness, and the sacred coexistence of power and grace within a single soul.
